Dedicated GF fryer, may be?
A dedicated gluten-free fryer may not always be on. Yes, I was shocked too.
Dear reader
I went to a restaurant. I normally go there. I haven’t had any issues. Until recently.
I went there. I ordered a fried appetizer. I have had that countless times. So, I didn’t have to ask again about dedicated GF fryer.
But, I got glutened.
My trust didn’t allow me to question that restaurant or that dish. However, I wondered what might have caused the reaction.
A couple weeks later, I happened to go there again. It was a slow-paced Sunday evening. I didn’t recognize the server. I thought she may be new here. So, as one would, I spent some time explaining my celiac needs.
I ordered the same appetizer. She, gratefully, double-checked with the kitchen. She brought back the news that they don’t have a gluten-free fryer. I was perplexed.
I wanted to chat with the manager. Not to complain, but to know correctly. One of the managers came to our table. I asked him about the discrepancy in the information from last time and this time. He explained that they don’t have the dedicated-fryer today.
Turns out, it’s not everyday that they “turn on” their dedicated GF fryer. It depends on their forecasted demands and staff they have in the kitchen that day. Maybe other factors too.
All-in-all, always check with the kitchen about little details.
As they say: Devil is in the details.
